THE GOLFING gods smiled on Evesham GC seniors as the skies cleared to provide a glorious day for the Seniors Mixed Open.
The course was in immaculate condition as 48 couples from 26 different clubs across the Midlands and Gloucestershire gathered to compete for the first prize of a magnificent silver rose bowl trophy, engraved glasses, M&S vouchers and a wicker picnic hamper containing wine and other treats.
The winners, with a score of 39 Stableford points, were John and Bet Gazzard from Cotswold Edge Golf Club near Wotton-under-Edge.
In second place were Brian and Sally Rogers (Evesham, 37 points on countback), followed by Ian Facer and Angela Fletcher (Evesham, 37 points).
Congratulations to the Gazzards who are the first pair from a visiting club to win this open at Evesham for seven years.
Evesham’s catering team served a superb running buffet for the competitors throughout the day.
EVESHAM GC men’s section played for the prestigious Golf Club Bowl on Saturday in a bogey singles competition.
In fine but rather windy conditions, low scores were again at a premium as players found it difficult to find the fast running fairways.
With only five of the field returning scores of the positive nature, Nick Webb topped the scoreboard with a +3 score off his 11 handicap.
Runner-up on +2 came Andrew Dauncey (19) and third place went to Geoff Wellens (18), again with +2.
