Skipper and Co triumph in Broadway ladies’ AM/AM

EIGHTY players from across the region enjoyed one of the highlights of the ladies’ calendar at Broadway Golf Club when the Ladies’ AM/AM took centre stage.

The day began on a cool note and, with intermittent showers in the forecast, umbrellas and waterproofs were the order of the day.

Despite the weather, the course played beautifully and ladies went out determined to enjoy their round. With the best two scores to count on each hole, it was the Broadway teams who began to build some formidable cards, cashing in on their local knowledge.

Overall winner of the home prize was ladies’ captain Irene Hawkes, along with team-mates Judith Noyce, Frances Friend and Valerie Steven with a fine 140 nett.

Next in line were Jane Nicholson, Esther Pettitt, Julia Fortescue and Rachel Rigg with a superb 142, ahead of third-placed Debbie Donoghue, Kate Bellamy, Cheryl Senior and Dawn Cannon who totalled 143.

There were seven visiting teams and taking top position among them with an impressive 146 nett were Barbara Robertson, Lesley Gillan, Sally Chan and Sue Gibson who had travelled from Henbury Golf Club in Bristol.

Awards were also given for best front and back nine scores, with South Herefordshire Golf Club quartet Lyn Relph, Janet Howe, Lyn Jones and Gilly Nicholls achieving 74 nett on the front and home team Barb Buggin, Elaine Hickin, Jan Titley and Louise Folkes scoring 70 nett on the back nine to take the prizes.
