Shipston take the honours in annual gala

SHIPSTON Sports were victorious at Littleton Bowling Club’s annual gala tournament on Sunday.

The event saw 20 teams compete for good cash prizes in excellent spirits as serious bowling was interspersed with much banter and laughter.

The teams were divided into two sections with each team playing four games throughout the day. The winner of each section then played ten ends to determine the overall winner, with the second placed side in each section vying for third place.

The latter contest was played between a team from Barbourne (A Clarke, B Clifton, Mo Clifton and J Drewer) against a team from Littleton (Tony and Jenny Guy and Ian and Will Heming) and it was Littleton who took third spot.

The game between the top two teams of Shipston Sports (Ully Beauchamp, Chris Winnett, Roy Cook and Peter Betteridge) and Bidford (Dennis Betteridge, Barbara Mumford, Jean Harris and Larry Allen) saw some excellent bowling in difficult weather as wind, rain and brilliant sunshine all featured and the Shipston team were the winners.

Many thanks go to event sponsors Winter & Co/Jack High Insurance, Philip Tomlins, Avonmore Associates, Evesham Self Drive, Premier Stores Littleton, Budget Skips, Karndean, Pete Bott Skips, Inn Express, Fiesta Catering, Dawn Foods, Bolstrode Kennels, Willersey Provisions, Fairview Trading, Littleton Auctions, Evesham Garden Centre and Station Garden Nurseries.

LITTLETON BC men returned to winning ways at home on Saturday with a comfortable 90-52 victory in the Vernon Turner county competition over Pershore.

One rink drew and the other Littleton three won, with the best score by Graham Norledge with J Martin, K Hardacre and D Turner with a 32-10 scoreline.
