Seniors Open proves popular and exciting

Evesham Editorial 12th Jun, 2017   0

A SCORE of 47 proved enough for Forest Hills GC duo David Shuttleworth and Trevor Hallett to win the Evesham Golf Club Seniors Open at Craycombe Links.

A field of 80 players competed as pairs in a betterball Stableford, in which more than half the players came from other clubs.

There were many good scores as the majority of the field achieved 40 points or more in dry conditions.

The course was in excellent condition and many of the visitors complimented the club on the excellent presentation of the course and the facilities offered.

Runners-up were Mark Cox and Roger Price (Kidderminster, 46) and third were Graham Hughes (Evesham) and Terry Cox (The Worcestershire, 45).

Nearest the pin on the 9th was Mike Whiteford (Evesham) and drive nearest the line on the 5th was Bill Dobie (Evesham).

A special thank you goes to Steve Deakin for organising such a successful event and to all the helpers, without whom the event could not have been laid on.

EGC seniors enjoyed splendid weather, food and course at Lilley Brook’s Cheltenham home, but not the result as the visitors went down 5-1.

On fast and true greens, some good golf was played by both teams as they negotiated the famous back nine up and down the side of the Cotswolds.

EGC results: Ian Wood and Steve Deakin lost 4&2; Ian Facer and Richard Saville lost 2 down; Malcolm Carnall and Mike Whiteford lost 5&4; John Vaughan and Les Bond won 3&2; Martin Williams and Alan Bees lost 1 down; Bill Dobie and Doug Sharp lost 1 down.
