A HECTIC week of golf concluded as Broadway Golf Club’s past captains and officers competed for the Sutton Cup, which was won by seniors captain John Friend.
Despite a blustery wind, the afternoon remained dry and made conditions ideal for play as the 24 competitors battled for the prestigious trophy, initially presented by esteemed past captain Jack Sutton who had served at Broadway between 1964-65.
Friend made light work of the course by scoring an excellent 39 points to earn the trophy. Runner-up with 37 points was 2018 captain Bernard Donoghue.
BROADWAY’S ladies were playing for the England Golf Medal and Winifred Stephens Trophy.
Competitors made the most of the weather and the stunning course conditions and some excellent scores were recorded.
In the Silver Division, Liz Smith carded a winning 71 nett, ahead of Rhiannon Gadsby-Evans who clinched second with 73. Annabelle Carter completed the top trio in the Silver Division, also scoring 73 to earn third place on countback.
Jan Titley headed up the Bronze Division with 73 nett, ahead of Veronica Rudd in second with 77 nett and Molly King-Smith third with 80.
The trophy element of the competition was donated by past lady member Winifred Stephens in 1962 and was available for all of the previous season’s Medal winners.
On this occasion it was deservedly won by Smith, with Titley runner-up.
