BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds enjoyed a dramatic 3-2 victory at local rivals Blockley 2nds in West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Severn Division Three.

The sides went into the game occupying the top two positions and it is the Pink Ladies who are the only side with a 100 per cent record after three games.

The hosts took the lead early on through a well converted short corner but Bretforton soon found their feet and some great play on the right wing from Ness Dufty and Milly Ingles ended with a pass to Rosie Zubek who took the ball into the D and, with a first-time strike, rocketed the ball into the goal.

Bretforton showed great composure on the ball with excellent passing moves by midfielders Dufty and Emma Lowe, together Isla Clayton on the left who had one of her best games of the season, but Blockley were quick on the break and an attack led to a short corner which they converted in similar manner to their first goal.

In the second half, Blockley pushed for another goal which would have given them a decisive advantage, but they could not get past Bretforton keeper Heather Carr.

It was 2-2 when an attack led to a short corner from which a sharp shot from Dufty was parried by the keeper and Tessa Lewinton was fastest to react to knock the ball into the goal.

The winning goal arrived from a short corner which Andrea Cole struck out and Dufty smashed the ball home five minutes from time.

Bretforton youngsters Amy Ball, Zubek and Clayton all had excellent games, playing with great composure for their age.

Bretforton 2nds visit Stroud 3rds on Saturday.

The Bretforton Ladies first team sit fourth in Severn Division One after a 2-1 win at Badgers. The Pink Ladies, with two wins from as many games, host Gloucester 3rds on Saturday.
