Second place leaves Burrows sitting pretty

EVESHAM Vale Triathletes enjoyed another successful weekend as Emma Burrows led the way by performing outstandingly well to finish second overall at the Top Barn Long Distance Duathlon.

Disappointingly, the event was altered from a triathlon to a run-bike-run format, but this clearly played to Burrows’ strengths as she showed her Ironman preparation ahead of next month’s race in Zurich, Switzerland.

Paul Fensome competed in the Bristol Standard Triathlon – consisting of a 1,500m swim, 20k bike and a 10k run – and clocked a personal best time of 2 hours, 39 minutes and a category position of tenth. This supersedes all previous performances over that distance by 16 minutes.

For those who fancied a more light-hearted race, Sunday’s Mud Runner Oblivion obstacle and mud run at Eastnor Castle in Herefordshire saw EVT members out in force.

A junior team for the 5km consisted of Laura Bessant, George Bessant, Will Bugg, Callum Sanderson, Charlie Waites, Troy Matthews, Finn Watkins, Chris Harper, James Carsberg, Tom Harvey, Finn Breach, Leo Rendall-Baker, Euey Breach, Jack Harvey, Holly Lishman, Mia Du Toit, Charlotte Millar, Isla Breach, Zoe Bugg, Imogen Harper, Theo Gorton, Maia Gorton, Matilda Harper, Oliver and Harry Wycherly, Dave Bessant, Steve Geldart, Sara Turner, Kristin Carsberg and Louise Bugg.

Will Bugg came fifth overall in a time of 25.15 in a field of nearly 1,500.

The adult 10k race team of Dave Bessant, Steve Geldart, Sara Turner, Kristin Carsberg and Louise Bugg completed the tough course in commendable times.
