PERSHORE Phoenix clinched the NC3 South West (North) league title with an emphatic 61-5 victory against Cheltenham Civil Service.
Phoenix have become the first-ever senior team associated with Pershore RFC to win a league title.
Pershore went into the final game of the season level on points with title rivals Fairford Vixens at the top of the table.
And Phoenix finished three points clear at the top of the standings to claim the title just four years after the team reformed.
Pershore made the perfect start when Harriet Wright scored the game’s first try after just 10 minutes.
And scrum-half Mollie Dale crossed for a hat-trick while captain Sally Jakeman dotted down twice.
Connie Rowe marked her debut for the club with a memorable first try with Rowe the third generation of her family to play for Pershore.
Pershore head coach, Gav Roberts said: “I am immensely proud of this team, their achievements and how far they have come over the last few years.
“Their efforts and commitment have paid off with this well-deserved league title.
“This is a fantastic result for women’s rugby, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of everyone at Pershore Rugby Club and our sponsors, for which we are hugely grateful.
“Onwards and upwards now as we head into next season. We know we will face some strong competition, so preparations will begin in earnest after the summer break.”
Pershore’s men’s side close out the season with a North Midlands Shield final against Ross-on-Wye on Saturday, May 9 with kick-off at 1.30pm at the home of Worcester Wanderers.
