EVESHAM Rowing Club’s junior and elite level scullers enjoyed success on the water at high-profile regatta’s in Marlow and Stratford.

The club’s senior men’s coxless four Op4- crew took on a world-class field at the Marlow Regatta held on the Olympic course at Dorney Lake in Eton.

And the crew of Tom Hill, Josh Hemming, Joe Murray and Jamie Saunders posted a strong result in the time trial to finish 38th out of 57 crews.

The field included national squad athletes and international entries. The crew later competed in the E final where they finished fifth.

And the crew will now set their sights on the Henley Royal Regatta. They will compete in the Wyfold Challenge Cup qualifying race on Friday, June 27.

Some 67 elite level club crews from around the world including Australia, Germany, USA, France and Ireland have entered the competition.

A total of 16 crews have been pre-selected with the remaining 51 crews to race the Henley course in a time trial vying for the final 16 spots into next week’s regatta.

Evesham captain, Simon North said: “The weekend’s achievements in a regatta known for fierce competition and fine margins is an outstanding result.

“To even be in the mix is a massive achievement and is testament to the talent and tenacity of our athletes, as well as the tireless work of coaches and volunteers behind the scenes.

“Everyone at the club is behind our boys as they give it full-throttle and go bow-ball to bow-ball with the best.”

At the other end of the age spectrum, Evesham’s junior squad also secured an impressive seven wins at the Stratford Regatta.

Evesham proved the top-performing club on the day with victories coming in the OpJ13 4x+, WJ15 2x, OpJ14 1x, OpJ13 2x, WJ14 4x+, OpJ13 1x and also WJ15 4x+ races.

North added: “A huge shout-out to our outstanding young athletes; Stan, Tommy, Laurence, William, Jacob, Johnny, Inky, India, Eva, Freddie, Lucy, Lottie, Harriet, Darcy and Jess.

“All your hard work is paying off in spades. Huge thanks go to our phenomenal coaches, parents and carers, and to our towers who tow our boats from regatta to regatta.

“We couldn’t do it without you.”
