MARGARET ROBERTS played the round of her life and received a standing ovation for her efforts in winning Evesham Golf Club ladies’ Jenny Marston Trophy.
On a beautifully hot morning, the ladies played a Medal to become the best nett winner for this lovely trophy, which has been awarded since Jenny’s captaincy in 1993.
Overall results: Division One – 1st Anne Cowley, 74pts; 2nd Joan Hunt, 78pts.
Division Two – 1st Jean Bevan, 75pts; 2nd Sally Deakin, 76pts.
Division Three – 1st Margaret Roberts, 69pts; 2nd Pat Saville, 80pts.
WHAT a difference a day makes as, having played Bank Holiday competitions in wonderful Mediterranean conditions, members contested a Friendly Reverse Waltz in very depressing ‘mizzle’ and a ten-degree drop in temperature.
Reverse Waltz played in teams of three ladies means three scores count on the first hole, then two scores count on the second and one on the third hole and so on through all 18.
Winners with 72 points were Sue Crossley, Annie Bird and Patsy Brumage, edging Eunice Allen, Sheelagh Crane and Marlene Billings into second place with 71 points.
