BROADWAY Golf Club captain Andy Basford and ladies’ skipper Irene Hawkes were hosts to their Joint Captains Charity Open AM/AM as they welcomed a record 164 competitors from more than 30 clubs across the country.

Whilst a little overcast to begin with, the day remained fine and, with two best scores to count on each hole, home player Mark Saunders and his guests from Northampton Golf Club – Craig James, Dave Coombes and Dean Smith – took full advantage of the perfect conditions to bring in a superb score of 88 points and win the men’s prizes.

There was a plethora of golfing equipment and clothing up for grabs for the lucky winners.

Earning the same score and finishing second on countback were home team Steve Griffin, Chris Davis, Stuart Storrer and John Richmond.

The mixed teams were also out and Cirencester’s quartet Andy Morris, Richard Merry, Steve Titchener and Jenny Dunning scored 91 points to secure victory.

Home team Dave Goodwin, Camilla Haines, Chris Parkinson and Adam Barnfield clinched second with 86.

The best ladies’ team were Broadway’s Lin Andrew along with team-mates Ruth Masters, Melanie Evans and Sandra Langmead from Evesham Golf Club who brought in an impressive 68 points to earn their deserved prizes.

Nearest the pins were also awarded on all par 3s, with Cirencester’s Steve Titchener closest on the fifth, Ken Lewis from Gaudet Luce on the eighth and home player Lin Andrew nearest the flag on the 13th.

Captains Basford and Hawkes were delighted to announce they had raised an incredible £3,000 from entry fees, silent auction bids and raffle proceeds which will be divided between their chosen charities – Maggie’s Cheltenham, Myeloma UK and Campden Home Nursing.
