Rain comes to Pershore’s rescue

PERSHORE were saved by the rain on Saturday as fellow Birmingham League Division Three promotion hopefuls Astwood Bank were denied an almost certain victory.

A deluge of rain arrived at Sambourne Lane with the hosts 45-2 off 16.4 overs and little more than three overs away from a result as they replied to Pershore’s 93 all out.

As it was, Bank had to settle for just nine points for their efforts and missed out on moving top of the pile as superb bowling from Dan Taylor (4-15) and Mike Desmond (3-8) went largely unrewarded.

Only Liam Ridings who made 29 off 75 balls offered any resistance to an impressive Bank attack.

Then, with captain and former county cricket star Steve Adshead 17 not out, the home side were all set for victory until the elements intervened.

Pershore took five points from the match and sit fourth in the table – just eight points behind new leaders Fordhouses – heading into Saturday’s visit of Newport to The Bottoms.
