HELEN Russell, a multi-sport athlete from Evesham, won her fifth British Quadrathlon title.

The National Championship race took place at Manvers Waterfront near Rotherham and covered an 800m lake swim, 15km off-road bike leg, 4km kayak and 5km run.

Racing for Fladbury Paddle Club, Russell led out of the swim leg and built on her lead throughout the race as she finished as the first overall woman in a time of 1 hour 48 minutes 24 seconds.

She finished ahead of Tora Oetgen and Clare Addy who completed the podium.

Russell, supported by the Rivers Evesham Gifted and Talented Scheme, first won the national title in 2017 and claimed the crown again in 2018 and 2019. She took a break from the sport until 2022, when she returned to take top spot for a fourth time.

Russell said: “Being British champion for a fifth time is really special. I consider myself very fortunate to still be racing and competitive for so long and I’d like to thank everyone that has supported me and helped keep me at the top of the podium.”

Fellow Fladbury Paddle Club member John McAdam just missed out on a podium finish in his age group after finishing fourth in the male 60 to 70 age category.
