Promoted Plums eager to make a good impression

Evesham Editorial 24th Apr, 2017   0

NEWLY-PROMOTED Pershore begin their Birmingham League Division Two season with a visit to Wombourne on Saturday.

The Plums head into the campaign in high spirits as they prepare to play at the highest level in their history and first team skipper Chris Ridings cannot wait to get started.

“We are looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead and hope to have another successful season, enjoying our cricket with our locally developed players,” said Ridings.

Pershore welcome new recruits Jon Hancock and Steve and Chris Miles from the disbanded Worcester Dominies and the trio are set to play key roles. All three have performed consistently with the bat in previous seasons in the Worcestershire League.

Other new Plums include Alex Clasen, who topped the batting averages for Birlingham last season, and Ieuan Davies, who joins from Devon outfit Filleigh.

Pershore will be running two sides in the Birmingham League and two teams in the Worcestershire League.

Their women’s team will be playing in Women’s Midland League Division One, as well as defending their title in the Worcestershire Development League.

After their success in last season’s County T20 Cup, the under 14s are hoping for more success.

The thriving junior section has six teams covering various age groups. Coaching sessions take place on Friday evenings throughout the season and all levels are catered for. For further information call Zoe Goodwin on 07594 963044.

Chairman Phil Oxley added: “Our ethos at Pershore is in playing cricket in the right spirit and enjoying the game.

“We are always trying to raise the standards from the youngest member to the oldest and are very fortunate to have a great coaching and support structure in place.

“We are excited about our prospects for the coming season and look forward to welcoming all visitors to the Plums to watch some exciting and entertaining cricket in a vibrant atmosphere.”

Pershore’s first team open their home campaign against Penkridge on May 6.
