VALE teenager Olly Turner showed plenty of resilience to claim two top ten finishes in rounds five and six of the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship at Silverstone.
On a circuit he had previously tested on, 14-year-old Turner in the Amber Motorhomes-backed #22 was confident his lap times would not be far off the front-runners.
After a solid Friday for Turner, the field was very close during Saturday’s free practice when less than a second separated the top ten cars.
Turner qualified in tenth, although he had shown quicker times in earlier practice.
Race one was fairly uneventful as he finished in the same position he started, but race two was more dramatic for the Evesham youngster.
After starting tenth, a missed gear exiting Brooklands meant a number of cars zipped by, leaving #22 in 13th.
Although frustrated, Turner set about getting back those lost places and by the end of the race had not only passed and battled his way through the pack, but managed to finish eighth and again earn points.
Turner was delighted with the recovery and how his frustration led to a fabulous drive. Looking at the race times, a top six finish is clearly possible, so Auto Enginuity-supported Turner is making advancements all the time under the guidance of Ryan Hooker, Jack Layton and the Jam Sport team.
Next up is another meeting in Northamptonshire, this time at Rockingham – where Turner’s passion for motorsport began – on June 18.
