PERSHORE Town climbed out of the Midland League Division One relegation zone as they extended their unbeaten run to three matches with a 2-2 draw against Chelmsley Town on Tuesday.
Hosts Pershore started the stronger in this six-pointer and took the lead after 20 minutes when Steve Webb’s pass put Jamie Clarke through on goal and he rounded the keeper before slotting home.
Chris Whittaker’s overhit cross bounced back off the post as Pershore looked comfortable but slowly the visitors came back into the game and equalised with a fierce left-footed free kick from Steve Sadler after 33 minutes.
Town keeper Shaun Edwards was called on to make a couple of decent saves as the visitors looked stronger in the early stages of the second half and Chelmsley were finally rewarded for their efforts after 56 minutes when substitute Lee Yonwin placed his effort past the advancing Edwards.
Pershore pushed for an equaliser and Reece Jacobs spurned an excellent opportunity when he headed over the bar from six yards out.
However, Clarke, who scored twice in Saturday’s 2-0 home win over high-flying Atherstone Town, completed another brace with a similar finish to his first goal when another Webb ball was flicked on by Ben Lane for Clarke to round the keeper and score.
This was a hard earned but deserved point for Pershore who are now within three points of four teams above them.
Town travel to sixth placed Racing Club Warwick on Saturday looking to extend their unbeaten run.
