Plum Plodders donate £500 to fine cause

Evesham Editorial 6th Dec, 2019   0

A KIND £500 donation from Pershore’s Plum Plodders running group has enabled the town’s tennis centre to support the Pershore and Evesham Down Syndrome group in competitive play.

Head coach Steve Bauer and the coaching team at Pershore Tennis Centre already run weekly classes to encourage players with Down Syndrome – as well as wheelchair users and participants with visual impairment – to not only enjoy tennis but also continue to grow their programme with the introduction of an exciting new schedule of opportunities for competitive play.

The award-winning head coach was recently handed the 2019 Disability Programme of the Year Award for his successes on court at Herefordshire & Worcestershire Lawn Tennis Association’s annual awards presentations and is focused on increasing opportunities for all.

He said: “We’re a very open club and encourage everybody to take up lessons, whatever their ability. We pride ourselves on giving everyone a top-class tennis experience and continue to introduce new opportunities for all of our players.”

Ian Hannis, race director for Pershore Plum Plodders, is keen to continue to support the Pershore and Evesham Down Syndrome group and is looking to raise funds for ongoing help with tennis at the local club.

He said: “We know how much Pershore Tennis Centre has supported the participants and how much it helps them, so we are now chuffed to hear Pershore and Evesham Down Syndrome group is able to play competitive tennis too.”
