Plenty of shocks as holders suffer Knockout Cup exit

Evesham Editorial 18th Dec, 2018   0

IT WAS a day of shocks in the quarter-finals of the Evesham Mechanical Services Knockout Cup including holders Bretforton Old Boys being dumped out 3-1 by visitors Offenham Rovers.

Robbie Sone had given Old Boys an interval lead before Rovers hit back with goals from Jake Hall, Ryan Harris and Kays Sibanda.

Their opponents in the last four will be Evesham WMC who won 2-1 at Broadway United through goals from James Bearcroft and Elliott Grady.

Second division leaders Alderton upset first division visitors Mickleton Rangers 1-0 with a second half Liam Pennell goal proving enough and the win guarantees a team from outside the top division being in the final.

Morgan Ballinger scored four goals for TDMS Evesham in their 4-3 win at Pebworth to reach the last eight of the Mick Godwin Cup. Tom Benfield (2) and Adam Willington scored for the home side.

Also through are Dragons who upset higher graded visitors AFC Cheltenham 5-1 through goals came from Rob Burford, Adam Hinchcliffe, Alex Lane, Luke Trotman and Darren Wilsden. Liam Robinson netted for Cheltenham.

TDMS Harvington progressed into the Bromsgrove Charity Minor Cup third round by defeating visitors Bromsgrove Academicals 4-2 with goals from Luke Woodfield (2), Carl Wallace and Matt Stephens.

Fladbury also moved through thanks to a narrow 3-2 home win over Stour Excelsior Reserves in which Cameron Dickenson, Ryan Griffin and Max Ferriday scored for Fladbury and Andy Coyne and Tom Grace struck for Stour.

Cropthorne missed the chance to go top of Evesham Sunday League Division Two after being held to a goalless home draw by Badsey Recreation.

Ashton 88 moved top of Division Three following a 4-2 victory at Vale United in which Lewis Carter bagged a hat-trick and Will Stevens scored for Ashton and Vale replied with a double from Paul Law.

Bengeworth recorded only their second win of the season in defeating hosts Fairfield Titans 4-2 with goals from Rhys Jackson, Will Warren, Josh Crowley and Ashley Adlington. Titans scored through Sam Cook and Stephen Vizor.

The league now takes a break over the Christmas period and will resume on January 6.
