Plenty for EVT athletes to shout about

Evesham Editorial 20th Aug, 2018   0

EVESHAM Vale Triathletes enjoyed great success in Sunday’s Bredon’s Hardwick Sprint Triathlon.

Marcus Mumford won the men’s veteran contest and was fourth overall, whilst Melanie Clarke was first-placed SuperVet and second overall.

EVT relay team LLP, which comprised of Alex Eagland on the swim, Colin Lewis-Painter on the bike and Lindsey Lewis-Painter on the run, were also victorious.

Other EVT athletes who competed were Helen Howells, Alison Robbins, Martin Jones, Chris Seeney and Kelly-Anne Archer with her partner and guide Jake Richardson, with all posting great performance times.

Due to Archer’s medical condition, Richardson swam next to her, they rode a tandem on the bike leg and the pair then ran over the finishing line together.

Jones in particular shone at this event – his second triathlon and first in open water. When he retired in 2013 he weighed 20 stone and was on lots of medication for diabetes but he has turned his life around and lost weight with the help of a personal trainer.

In 2015 Jones, who could not swim front crawl at the time, attended the EVT bike rides and became a full member in 2017. He learned front crawl and has overcome his fear of swimming in an open water lake and said he wished he had not waited until the age of 63 to take up triathlon!

There is also a junior and senior section of the club. For further details, visit www.eveshamvaletriathletes.co.uk or email [email protected].
