Pershore Town 2 Stafford Town 1
Midland League Division One
PERSHORE Town defeated lowly Stafford Town at the 2020SolarPV Stadium on Saturday to end a five-match run without a victory.
The result was far more convincing than the scoreline suggested as Pershore dominated the match for long periods.
The first half was one-way traffic as the hosts went close through shots from Pawel Tomczak and Steve Webb.
However, it took until the 37th minute to break the visitors’ resistance when Gareth Evans got on to a cross in a crowded six-yard box to score with his head.
The lead was increased three minutes later through Tomczak who created space for himself and fired a right-footed shot into the corner of the net from 22 yards.
The game should have been put beyond doubt when, just before half time following a mix-up in the Stafford defence, Tomczak flicked the ball wide of the keeper but it ran away from him before he could put it into an empty net.
The second half continued with Pershore dominating and playing some good football and several good moves should have led to more goals but Town squandered chances.
Spencer Gunnell scored from close range for the visitors after 68 minutes but, despite some late pressure, Pershore deservedly won to cement 14th place.
Town travel to Cadbury Athletic on Saturday before visiting Pelsall Villa on Tuesday.
