Pershore Tennis Centre makes winning start to 2020

Evesham Editorial 6th Jan, 2020   0

PERSHORE Tennis Centre players are celebrating after winning the local Davis Cup for the second year in a row.

The award-winning Pershore club fielded a strong local team at Manor Park, with coach Jazzamay Drew leading the juniors players to their second Davis Cup win in succession.

The 12 and under mixed team comprised Alfie Mills, Jack Bulbulia and Ruth Teale, who came through to take the title.

Pershore started the day by beating Stourport 4-0, then followed up with more strong performances to defeat Hereford 4-0, Redditch 4-0 and Manor Park 4-0.

Each tie consisted of three singles matches and one doubles game and Pershore proved too strong as they retained the County Championship title.

Last year, the local club – based behind Pershore College – was awarded the Disability Programme of the Year title by Herefordshire and Worcestershire Lawn Tennis Association and, with a second Davis Cup title now under their belt, the club and members are excited about what is next for the year ahead.

Chairwoman Sarah McCormick said: “If you’re looking to play tennis, then we have something for everyone, so please give us a call or come in and see us.

“We have three indoor courts, five outdoor courts, a fabulous coaching team and staff, as well as cardio tennis, holiday camps, futures programme and disability tennis.”
