Pershore prevail at Littleton's annual gala

LITTLETON Bowls Club’s annual Invitation Gala served up some exciting action, which was topped by Pershore winning the 20-team event.

Many of the teams were from the surrounding area but two teams came from Cam in Gloucestershire and one from Coventry.

With splendid weather throughout and the great atmosphere of the bowlers enjoying their time at Littleton, it was a truly great occasion.

With the teams divided into two groups of ten, they played four games of 50 minutes. After three rounds there was no obvious winner of either group as any of 11 teams could have got through to the final.

There was much biting of nails and eventually the teams skipped by Tony Docherty, Leeways, and Mike Ames, Overbury, played for third and fourth places, with Roger Page, Pershore, and Paul Taylor, Coventry, competing for top spot.

More than 60 people stayed to watch the finals and Taylor’s rink started well by winning the first two ends befre Page pulled back an end, with the score at four ends being one to Page and six shots to Taylor.

On the fifth and sixth ends Taylor began to catch up and overtake with a four and three-shot win, making the score 8-6 to Page.

There was some extremely good bowling from both sides, with the final score being 10-8 to the Pershore rink of Jez Lewis, Maurice Rogers and Jenny and Roger Page.

Runners-up were the Coventry rink of Brenda Kendry, Alan Beale and Rebecca and Paul Taylor.

Third place went to Ames’ side and fourth were the Leeways side.

Without the continued support of sponsors this fabulous day would not take place, so thanks go to Jack High Insurance, Avonmore Associates, Bolstrode Kennels, Budget Skips, Dawn Foods, Fiesta Catering, Inn Express, Kanes Foods, Listers VW, Littleton Premier Stores, Pete Bott Skips, Simon Hall Removals and Willersey Provisions.

Many of the teams have already stated their intentions to return next year on June 30.
