Pershore players shine on Herefordshire & Worcestershire duty

A TRIO of Pershore Tennis Centre players represented Herefordshire & Worcestershire in the under 16 ’12 Counties’ event at Corby.

In the girls’ competition, Pershore’s Imogen Looker played at number two for the county and club-mate Lucie Palmer played at number four.

Their first match was against Buckinghamshire and H&W number one Imogen Sinclair started off with a convincing win.

Next up, Imogen Looker played a higher rated girl and competed well to secure the first set 5-3 before having a wobble as she lost the second set 4-0.

However, Imogen battled back strongly to win the tie-break third set.

Katy Lewin, at number three, also won her match in three sets before, despite playing well, Lucie lost her first match, but still the team enjoyed a good 3-1 win to start the day.

Next they faced Northamptonshire and all four girls played well to win in straight sets and give H&W a well deserved and convincing 4-0 victory.

The final round was against Bedfordshire and, showing great team spirit and determination, all four girls again won in straight sets to ensure Herefordshire & Worcestershire topped the round-robin event.

In the boys’ event, Pershore’s Matt Sime played at number four and battled hard but lost his first match before winning the next two encounters.

The H&W boys’ team finished the day in second place.

Overall, having played the ten and under, 14 and under and 16 and under age groups, the county lie in first place with just the under 12s and under 18s to play next month.
