Pershore bid to match Rapids’ T20 success

PERSHORE Cricket Club are looking to emulate Worcestershire’s Vitality Blast triumph by winning their own T20 final on Sunday.

The Plums are up against Himley, who are currently in Division One of the Birmingham League, in the Gray’s County Cup final at New Road.

Skipper Chris Ridings believes his side have performed on a different level in this year’s T20 competition compared with a weaker showing in Birmingham League Division Two.

“Our form is similar in some respects to the county, who have struggled in the County Championship but have shown a different class in blitzing their way to the T20 title,” said the captain.

“Similarly to the Rapids last Saturday, we’ll be the underdogs in the final. Hopefully we can use these markers to spur us on to victory.”

Although Pershore are in the division below, the gap does not faze the skipper.

He added: “We’ve beaten Barnards Green, another Division One side, en route to the final, so playing Himley will not bother the players.

“It’s just another game of cricket for the lads. We’re looking forward to playing at New Road and are hoping to put on a great show for the club and town.

“It’ll be fantastic to see lots of supporters there backing the team.”

The Gray’s County Cup T20 final is scheduled to start at about 3pm.
