Pershore are edged out by Littleton in derby

PERSHORE Town’s slump in Midland Football League Division One form continued as Saturday’s derby defeat to Littleton was followed by another home setback against Atherstone Town on Tuesday.

The derby encounter was keenly contested at the 2020SolarPV Stadium, but it was the visitors who edged it 1-0 with the only goal scored by Jamie Clarke on the hour.

Both teams had opportunities in the first half as Littleton created three decent chances but lacked the killer touch in front of goal.

At the other end, Pershore were unlucky with two efforts scrambled off the line – the first from a corner and goalmouth scramble and later when Danny Carter flicked the ball around Littleton’s keeper only for Steven Edghill to clear off the line.

Littleton started the second half stronger and took the lead through Clarke when he beat Town defender Adam Guest to score at the near post.

Pershore chased the game in the last 15 minutes but, despite creating chances, failed to find a breakthrough whilst the visitors also spurned chances to increase their lead.

Three days later Atherstone also left with three points to their name from an evenly contested game.

After a goalless first half, it was the visitors who took the lead after 57 minutes with a close range effort.

Danny Carter then had a great opportunity to level the score but shot wide with only the keeper to beat and the visitors paid Pershore pay with a second goal from the penalty spot to seal a 2-0 win.

Town do not have a match this weekend. A week on Saturday they travel to Bromsgrove Sporting in one of the feature matches on National Non-League Day.
