Pebworth bring a halt to leaders’ progress

BIRDSEYE Sports Evesham Sunday League Division Three leaders Alcester Town saw their perfect start to the season ended by Pebworth as the hosts secured a 4-2 victory.

Chapman, Keen, Rose and Benfield netted for the home team and Alcester were on the mark through Hincks and Downey.

Ashton 88 won 5-1 at Fairfield Titans with goals from Stevens, Jenkins, Johnson, Deeney and Fleming. Cox struck for Titans.

First half goals from Booth and Johns proved enough for Ambi Allsports to seal a 2-1 home win against Stour Excelsior Reserves, for whom Johnson was on target.




The local derby at the Jubilee Stadium produced eight goals as hosts Strawberry Field United came out on top 5-3 against Dragons. Sherry (2), Colston, McGee and Ballard scored for Strawberry Field and Dragons scored through Pilling, Sinden and Donnison.

Bretforton Old Boys Reserves moved joint top of Division Two with a 6-3 victory at Charlton Fladbury and Fortis continued their recent revival by winning 2-1 at Bredon thanks to goals from Leyden and Puttock. Hagley netted for the home side.


Stour Excelsior moved top of Division One with a 5-3 home win over Evesham WMC in which Wellsby and Drinkwater both scored twice for the Shipston side and Rowberry also netted. The Workies registered through Dixon (2) and Iorns.

Dyson and Pringle scored for Tewkesbury Town in their 2-2 home draw against Offenham Rovers.

Both Broadway United teams reached the last eight of the Evesham Mechanical Services Knockout Cup. The first team won 4-1 at Inkberrow with goals from Cooper (2), Hands and Mark Horsburgh, with the hosts on the mark through Emblem.

The Reserves impressively accounted for higher graded visitors Mickleton Rangers 4-0 with goals from Clark, Hoskins, Goodhall and Burtenshaw.

Last season’s finalists New Inn Pershore stormed through with a 9-0 success at Badsey Recreation thanks to goals from Rogers (2), Rushton (2), Smith (2), Greenham, Brant and Worrell.

TDMS Evesham recorded a club record win with an 8-0 home thumping of Bengeworth through McGarr (3), Maxted, Rogers, Cole, Cook and Jones.

Beasley and Clifford were on target for hosts Stratford HGC as they upset Division Two side Alderton 3-1, whilst Bretforton Old Boys accounted for visitors Sun Inn 7-2 with goals from Sean Brain (3), Gayton (2), Beddoes and Clarke. Sun scored through Gardener and Major.

In the Bromsgrove Charity Minor Cup first round, TDMS Harvington were beaten 3-1 at home by Meadow Park Youth, whilst Cropthorne exited 3-2 on penalties at Broughsons after a 1-1 draw.
