Partnership is key to a successful season for Pershore U15s

WHILST the Pershore RFC mini section continues to grow in numbers and momentum, the Pershore RFC under 15 team have continued to enjoy a successful season thanks in no small part to a partnership with one of their nearby clubs and rivals Upton RFC.

The partnership has clearly benefited both clubs and allowed a strong team to develop and flourish as a result, as both clubs would have struggled to offer players game time without working together with this age group.

Recently the under 15 team had a thrilling game against Bromyard which finished 22-14 in favour of the Pershore/Upton team as tries came from both teams in a gruelling match.

This really was a game of two halves, played in difficult conditions due to the wind and rain and reflected by the fact all scores from both teams were only made at one end of the pitch on what was not a good day for kicking!

The Upton/Pershore team made a strong start, spending much of the first quarter in the Bromyard half and demonstrating the skills they had learnt at training, turning over the ball on several occasions.

However, Bromyard came back strongly towards half time and were able to score two converted breakaway tries in close succession between the posts, leaving Bromyard 14-0 up at the break.

After half time, both teams defended strongly, preventing each other from scoring for the first ten minutes.

However, the Pershore/Upton team were then able to use their fitness and speed in the back line and scored three unconverted tries.

Despite a good recovery from Bromyard towards the end of the game, the home team were able to break through again in the last few seconds and were awarded a penalty try which was successfully converted after an infringement out on the far wing.

This was a great team effort by all players from both teams in very tricky conditions.

This weekend Pershore RFC will host the friendly mixed touch rugby tournament at their Mill Lane home on Sunday at 2pm.

Then, on Saturday, April 25 (3pm), Pershore RFC veterans will be playing Upton veterans at Upton in one of two charity fund-raising games.
