Parish Games winners are honoured

Evesham Editorial 2nd Dec, 2015 Updated: 20th Oct, 2016   0

AROUND 70 people from across Wychavon were at Lower Moor Village Hall last Thursday for this year’s Wychavon Parish Games presentation evening.

The runners-up and winners in all the individual events were first presented with their awards either by the event sponsors or by members of Severn Trent Water, which assists Wychavon Sport financially.

The main awards were then presented by Cllr Val Wood, chair of Wychavon District Council, and these results were eagerly awaited, as they are not disclosed until the night.

The Small Parish Award was won by Wick, while the Richard Preece Cup for the best medium parish was won by Hill & Moor, who were the 2014 overall winners.

The Award of Merit, which goes to a parish which has entered every event but not actually won any of them, went to Wyre Piddle.

Eckington were overall runners-up with 150, a score which has won them the overall shield in the past.

However, no other parish could compete with Bretforton, who won the coveted shield with a record-breaking score of 189 points.

This year approximately 1,000 players from 26 parishes competed in the games.

The award winners are as follows:

WMCRS Silver Salver for champion parish – Bretforton (took part in 15 events); Mitchell & Butler Cup for runners-up – Eckington (took part in 15 events); Group 4 Total Security Cup Award of Merit – Wyre Piddle (took part in 15 events); Small Parishes Trophy (less than 500 on electoral roll) – Wick (took part in 11 events); Richard Preece Cup (501-999 on electoral roll) – Hill & Moor (took part in 15 events).
