Pairs Open events get under way

SIXTY-TWO pairs competed in the first of this year’s Vale Golf Club senior men’s Pairs Open competitions played as a better ball, with the best score in each pair going on the scorecard.

Such is the popularity of these open events, 30 different golf clubs were represented.

As was expected from such a high number of competitors, scoring was extremely close, with victory with 43 stableford points going to B Platt and his partner B Bannister on countback from Tony Hampson playing with John Scott.

Third and fourth places were also the subject of the countback system, with Mike Roberts and Brian Bunn edging out D Colwell and his playing partner K O’Conner – both pairs coming in with 40 points.

St Richard’s Hospice is the chosen charity of this year’s seniors captain Andy Jinks, with more than £500 raised from the sale of raffle tickets at the Pairs Open by Belinda Whitehead and Jill Millard.

Jinks expressed his gratitude to the two ladies when they were presented with bouquets of flowers in recognition of their efforts.
