EVESHAM’S Olly Turner was crowned the winner of a prestigious UK motorsport award shortly before Christmas.
The junior racer was victorious in scooping the Downforce Radio Young Gun Award, seeing off talented competition from across the country on the back of a fine 2014 which saw him finish an overall second in his first full season in the JASCAR British Championship.
This honour was the pinnacle of Olly’s year and in his live interview he expressed how he was “over the moon” and it was “the best Christmas present”.
Jake Sanson, commentator for Eurosport, Motors TV and editor at Downforce Radio: The Voice of British Motorsport, said: “Olly’s inclusion in our final nominations placed him up against some of the most talented youngsters in the country.
“The fact that the British public has selected him as the best U13 racer this year proves there is a huge level of support for this talented young star and we believe he is a driver we as a motorsports channel need to be keeping our eye on as he charts his progress towards top level motorsport.
“Olly is a very talented confident young man who knows what he wants to do in this sport and we are keen to support him on his incredible journey.”
Steve Stanford, promoter of the JASCAR series, said: “Downforce listeners voted our very own #22 Jascar racer Olly Turner as top under 13-year-old young gun driver for 2014.
“Out of 20 nominees up for the young driver award from all types of motorsports, Olly topped them all. Huge congratulations to Olly for winning.”
Dave Goddard, commentator for Incarace Birmingham and Northampton and Downforce’s oval racing correspondent, added: “It’s been fantastic to work with the emerging JASCAR formula this year and see emerging talent coming into the sport.
“Olly has had a wonderful year battling hard at the top of the formula and richly deserves his prize. He is sure to go far in the wide world of motorsport.”
The prize for the youngster will be a test drive in Cheshire with a junior saloon car.
Olly is looking forward to this and 2015’s racing season with his American stock car, building on his fantastic 2014.
