OFFENHAM were victorious and Inkberrow runners-up in a keenly contested Wychavon Parish Games men’s five-a-side football tournament on Sunday.
A dozen parishes competed in the event at Badsey Club’s ground, sponsored by Badsey Butchers, and teams were split into two groups of six on a very hot day.
Once the groups had finished, finals took place between the teams placed in the same place in each group to determine the overall results.
The final for 11th and 12th places resulted in a win for Hill & Moor over an inexperienced, but valiant, Wick team. An older Bretforton team then defeated Eckington to take ninth place, whilst Honeybourne saw off Harvington to take seventh place and Ashton-under-Hill beat Wyre Piddle to take fifth spot.
A really tight match between Broadway and Badsey had to be decided on penalties and it was Broadway who took third place over Badsey in fourth.
The final was another very close match, again decided on penalties, with Offenham the victors and Inkberrow second.
The rounders, sponsored by Marshalls Transport, takes place on Pershore High School’s playing fields this weekend.
This will be followed by the cross country, sponsored by Schloetter Co Ltd, which will also take place on Pershore High School’s playing fields on the evening of Monday, July 16.
