BRETFORTON Ladies 2nds were made to pay for missed chances as they suffered a disappointing defeat on Saturday.

On the back of some good recent performances, the Pink Ladies played some of their best hockey of the season in the first half, including fine passing moves on the left from Molly Stock, Emma Lowe in midfield and Lucy Cole on the wing.

The visitors deservedly scored the opening goal when Kim Payne took the ball along the right before crossing into the D where Cole’s shot was parried by the keeper, only for Stock to convert on the rebound.

However, the Bath side levelled just before half time.

Bretforton rallied in the second half and Cole was unlucky not to score when her reverse stick shot was stopped on the line.

The hosts then took the lead from a well worked short corner before the visitors responded by winning numerous short corners of their own through player of the match Payne, but they could not capitalise on these.

Bretforton were fully punished as the home side scored twice more to put the outcome beyond doubt and the visitors’ misery was compounded as the unfortunate Payne twice saw shots go agonisingly wide of the target.

The Pink Ladies’ next league game is at Shipton Oliffe on February 18.

BRET’S first team drew 3-3 at high-flying Cirencester in the North Division.

They return to league action on February 25 at home to leaders Lansdown.

BRETFORTON’S Masters side booked a Women’s Masters Over 35s Shield quarter-final at Solihull on February 26 thanks to a 1-0 victory over Stratford in the last 16 on Sunday.

The Pink Ladies were beaten in the 2016 final at Lee Valley Olympic Park hockey centre in London and are aiming to go one better this time around.
