Masters show the way at top championships

SOUTH Worcestershire Lifesaving Club masters duo Adrian Mayhew and Abbi Jones won seven medals between them at the two-day Surf Life Saving Great Britain Pool Championships at Millfield School in Somerset.

Hundreds of adults and children competed and among the stars of the show were Mayhew and Jones.

On the Saturday Mayhew and Jones were in action in the Masters Division and Mayhew won gold in the 50m manikin carry and silvers in the 100m obstacles, manikin carry with fins and manikin tow.

Jones also won silver in the manikin carry with fins and two bronzes in the manikin carry and obstacle.

Sunday brought an early start and personal best times for all South Worcestershire youngsters in the 100m and 200m obstacle races.

Lara Harding, the youngest member taking part in the 13-year age group, continued a day of personal bests in every event by achieving an impressive top 15 finish in all events.

Tom Clifford and Luke Smith had a mixed day in the 14/15-year age category with some pick-up problems, but both had success in the manikin carry races.

Emily Carsberg, taking part in her first championships in the 16/17-year age category, impressed in her manikin carry and manikin tow.

Alex Jackson, also in the 16/17-year age category, continued his successes from the Royal Life Saving Society Nationals with a personal best and fifth place in the manikin carry with fins and eighth in the 100m manikin tow.
