TEMPERATURES soared at Broadway Golf Club as the Martland Trophy was contested in unbroken sunshine.

Donated in 1975 by former lady member Tilly Martland, the 4BBB competition was drawn for partners and played to three-quarters handicap, so plenty of challenges faced the golfers.

Unperturbed by the heat, winning pair Pat Green and Rita Smith brought in a superb 74 nett to take the trophy, leaving Lin Everitt and June Griffin to take runner-up position with 75.

Earning a commendable third position with 76 nett were Sonia Ward and Jude Vidler.

Jen Doran found her form at the weekend in the ladies’ Stableford, particularly following the night of thunderstorms and torrential rain, as she brought in an excellent 36 points to take a comfortable lead and win the competition.

The men’s Division One and Two Medals were also played at the weekend on a bright Sunday morning, when the course was in splendid condition.

In Division One Matt Magee achieved first place with a superb 69 nett, leaving Jamie Andrew to take second with 71 as he also earned the lowest gross of 74. Taking third place was Kenny Campbell, also with 71, but just losing out to Andrew on countback.

Tony Coombes earned victory in Division Two with a magnificent 67 nett as Joe Williams was edged into second place on countback. Justin Loram scored 72 to give him a well deserved third.
