Knockout Cup serves up some surprise results

THERE were a couple of shock results in second round matches played in the Evesham Mechanical Services Knockout Cup.

Division Two’s Defford/Besford United upset Division One outfit Eckington 4-1 as Lee Miller scored a hat-trick against his former club for the Pershore-based side.

Meanwhile, Division Three’s Broadway United Reserves defeated second division side Tesco United 3-1 as Sallis (2) and Smaylen scored for Broadway and Lambert netted for Tesco.

Holders Bear FC were knocked out in a penalty shoot-out having shared four goals with Fladbury Athletic as Brain scored twice for Fladbury and Payne and Davis were on the mark for Bear.




White (2) and Metrovich were on target for Evesham WMC as they accounted for Pebworth 3-0 whilst Mickleton Rangers avenged a recent league defeat with a convincing 6-2 win over Alcester Town thanks to goals from Mills (3), Beach (2) and Neill.

In Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League Division One Jamie Clarke scored twice for Bretforton Old Boys but goals from Dunsbee and Harris earned hosts Stour Excelsior a point in a 2-2 draw.


Pinvin United drew 2-2 at home to Broadway United as Izod bagged a brace for Pinvin and Burtenshaw and Jason Horsburgh scored for Broadway.

In Division Two Jacksons Fairfield comfortably won 5-1 at AC Olympia with goals from Radford, Smaylen, Corr, Scrivens and Warren.

Division Three leaders Cider Mill maintained their perfect record with a 2-0 victory at promotion rivals Inkberrow as a first half double from Stuart Reading earned the win and Stratford United clinched their first point of the season with a 2-2 draw at home to Sun Inn as Todd and Clifford scored for Stratford and Collins (2) struck for Sun.

Badsey Recreation drew 3-3 at home to Cropthorne in a match which saw Bishop hit a double for Badsey and Crenan do likewise for the visitors.

Harvington moved to the top of Division Four with a 5-1 victory at Ruby Jacks in which Woodfield (2), Philpott (2) and Dalloway scored for Harvington, whilst Bengeworth hit four without reply against visitors Stour Excelsior Reserves through Lane (2) and Huckvale (2).

There were disappointing results in the GFA County Cup competitions with only Alderton left to carry the league flag through to the semi-finals of the Intermediate Cup after a 3-2 victory over Longford Sunday as WMK, Ecosamba and Tewkesbury Town all crashed out.
