Jubilant James is Pershore's hat-trick hero

FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD James Andrews took four wickets in one over including a hat-trick to help Pershore 3rds to a crushing 202-run victory over visitors Harborne.

Left-arm seamer James, who has been at Pershore for the past six seasons, claimed his first ever hat-trick as he tore through Harborne’s lower order on his way to figures of 4-6.

His first wicket was the result of a smart stumping from another 14-year-old, Todd Charlton. James then completed his hat-trick thanks to a fine slip catch from Chris Holtom and then took his fourth wicket off the final ball of the over.

His younger brother Alex, just 12 and who represents his county age group, also played a part in the victory. Apart from bowling in tandem with James, he ran out the opening batsman to get Pershore off to a flying start.

Their proud father Paul completed the on-field Andrews trio in the Worcestershire League Division Five encounter.

Pershore’s first team were beaten by eight wickets at Wombourne in Birmingham League Division Two.

Liam Ridings (62), Taylor Pugh (52) and Adam Wiffen (41) impressed with the bat for the Plums as they made 218, but the hosts eased to 222-2 inside 41 overs in reply.

There was better news the following day as Pershore defeated visitors Bromsgrove by 96 runs in the Birmingham League Twenty20 Challenge Cup first round.

The hosts made 162-5 as opener Chris Ridings led the way with 50 off 39 balls, whilst Matthew Brace made 39 off 29.

The visitors were never in the hunt in reply, restricted to just 66-8 as Pugh and George Kirby claimed two wickets apiece.
