THERE were celebrations all round as numerous Pershore Rugby Club teams enjoyed victories at the weekend.

The ladies’ touch team, men’s 1st XV contact squad and the minis and juniors U11s, U10s and U9s were all victorious.

It means spirits are high leading up to the club’s ‘Celebration of Rugby Day’ at Piddle Park on Saturday, April 28 when current and past players and family and friends will be in attendance.

From 2pm, there will be demonstration matches of touch and contact by the men, women and children, whilst a live band, bouncy castle and plenty of good cheer will add to the occasion.

Pershore’s men were 50-25 victors at Claverdon in their penultimate Midlands Four West (South) fixture on Saturday.

Sixth-placed Pershore are conclude their campaign at home to fourth-placed Coventrians on Saturday.

John Critchlow, lead coach for the men’s contact teams, said: “Pershore 1st XV have worked hard all season and are looking to end their league campaign on a high on Saturday.

“The Social XV have also had a very enjoyable season and will be playing at home to Worcester in Worcester & Hereford Merit Table Division Three. Both matches kick off at 3pm.”

Pershore conceded no tries as they won for the second successive event having also prevailed at the ten-team opener at Luctonians.

“We are all really looking forward to playing together over the next seven months of the touch season.”

Meanwhile Ben Andrews, chairman of Pershore minis and juniors, says the children’s section goes from strength to strength.

“Our whole approach is to always make rugby fun and it pays off in so many ways,” said Andrews.

“The children enjoy themselves, so they focus well, their skills improve, they tell their friends who come along too and they have even more fun together.”

Anyone can come and join in training sessions at Pershore at the following times: Ladies’ touch – Wednesdays 7.30pm and Sundays 10am; ladies’ contact – Mondays 7pm until May; men’s contact – Tuesdays and Thursdays 7pm until May; minis and juniors tag, touch and contact – Sundays 10am until May.
