In-form Ebanks fires Robins back to winning ways

CALLUM Ebanks netted twice in a man of the match performance to help Evesham United return to winning ways in a 3-1 win at home to Plymouth Parkway.

An excellent all-round team performance against a well organised Parkway side ended a run of seven games without a win.

Evesham made what has become their customary attacking start to the Southern League Division One South game but the woodwork came to the rescue of their opponents on four minutes when a powerfully-struck 25-yard shot from Callum Ebanks struck the post.

Despite the home side dominating the early exchanges it was the visitors who struck first with an 11th-minute penalty dispatched confidently by Plymouth’s Jordan Copp.

A well-worked move down the centre of the pitch enabled Ebanks to level six minutes later with his third goal in as many games. Not even the close attention of thee defenders could stop the Cheltenham Town loanee from firing the ball past the visiting keeper.

On 38 minutes Evesham took a deserved lead with a goal that brought the 236-strong crowd to their feet. The ball came to Brandon Smalley on the corner of the 18-yard box, his volley gave Kyle Moore in the Plymouth goal no chance, whilst also giving Brandon a spectacular goal on his debut.

The second half started in the same way the first finished with United dominating play, the visitors were limited to picking up play from any Evesham errors.

An excellent performance by visiting keeper Moore was keeping the score respectable, that was until the 52nd minute when Smalley found Ebanks in the box, yet again he held off his defender before his powerful shot found the back of the net.

As the game continued Evesham played by far the better football, much to the delight of the loyal Robins fans. The last opportunity of the match fell to the visitors in the 89th minute, Michael Landricombe’s long-range shot being parried away by Lewis Clayton whilst at full stretch.

Evesham will head to Bideford AFC on Saturday with renewed confidence.
