EVESHAM UNITED head to leaders Bristol Manor Farm on Saturday sitting pretty in fifth place in Southern League West after two successive victories.
Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Barnstaple Town thanks to Matt Liddiard’s second half brace (report online) was followed by an excellent 1-0 triumph at Cirencester Town on Tuesday.
In what was a brilliant advert for non-League football, Leroy Odiero netted the winner in the 48th minute.
Both sides played constant attacking football on the hosts’ new synthetic surface and Archie Haskayne, Bradley Gray and Lewis Powell all went close for the visitors in the early stages.
Gray twice threatened with fizzing free kicks which tested home keeper Mateusz Wieczorek, whilst at the other end Liddiard made a fine challenge to deny Felipe Barcelos a sight of goal and Ben Whitehead fired narrowly wide.
Paul Fahy’s half-volley went inches wide for the Robins before half time but the visitors did grab the only goal three minutes after the restart when the towering Odiero crashed the ball into the net from Gray’s excellent corner.
Lewis Powell went close to doubling Evesham’s lead when his stinging effort was beaten away and Gray then forced a stunning save from Wieczorek, but Paul Collicutt’s side had done enough despite late pressure from the home side.
Evesham, three points off top spot, now turn their attentions to a crucial game on Saturday before hosting Stratford Town in the League Cup on Wednesday.
