EVESHAM ended a run of five league defeats with a crucial 20-10 victory over Spartans which leapfrogged the Vale side over their visitors into eighth place in Midlands Two West (South).
With half of the campaign to play, the Avonsiders are now seven points clear of the drop zone after tries from Jordy Izod (2), skipper Rich Clarke and Mike Diston in the last minute secured a precious bonus point win against the Sutton Coldfield opposition.
The key to Evesham’s victory was a gritty defensive performance, typified by man of the match Wilf Watson who produced an influential performance.
Evesham travel to fourth placed Barkers Butts on Saturday (2.15pm).
