Home advantage is key in Evesham Seniors Open

LOCAL knowledge and canny golf saw home members scoop the prizes at Evesham Golf Club’s Seniors Open.

Club captain John Machin won the Martin Bird trophy with 39 Stableford points and Martin Williams, the seniors’ vice-captain, was runner-up with 37 points, followed by third and fourth placed Bryan Rogers and Ian Facer with 36 and 35 points respectively.

However, nobody managed to win the splendid £7,000 prize for a hole-in-one on the 9th, or the selection of holiday breaks and new clubs on offer for holes-in-one on the other par 3s – all kindly sponsored by BW Financial Services. Next year perhaps!

TWENTY-NINE ladies competed in a straight Medal competition at Evesham Golf Club.

In Division One Joan Hunt took first place with a nett 76, second was Annie Bird (77 nett) and third was Anne Cowley (nett 79).

In Division Two Verity Lawrance took top spot (nett 74), second was Val Lemon (nett 78) and third was Margaret Williams (nett 78).

Eunice Allen took first place in Division Three (nett 76), second was Jenny Masser (nett 79) and third was Lesley Kewley (nett 80).
