OLYMPIC gold medallist Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE is the prestigious guest speaker for the 2017 Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

The hockey star, who enjoyed glory as part of the Great Britain women’s team in Rio in 2016, is delighted to be attending the glittering ceremony at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways Stadium on November 23.

Amassing an impressive 375 appearances, England and Great Britain captain Richardson-Walsh, now retired from international hockey, has become the most capped female player in history.

An inspirational and charismatic leader, she has been widely credited for helping to build the incredible team ethos and commitment which drove the GB team to a historic, nail-biting victory at the Rio Olympic Games.

After securing a bronze in London 2012, Rio 2016 was her fourth Games and finally yielded the coveted Olympic gold medal.

Having created history, Richardson-Walsh is determined to inspire the future, turning her experience towards coaching. She wishes to encourage the grassroots development of the game and apply the leadership and team and performance lessons of a career in elite sport.

Ahead of attending the evening, she said: “I am honoured and looking forward to attending the 16th annual Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

“These local events are the perfect opportunity to recognise the abilities, passion, contribution and achievements of sportspeople, volunteers, coaches and groups across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

“These awards are more than just a celebration of medals won and targets achieved.┬áSport and physical activity enable a great sense of purpose, personal challenge and confidence and I am looking forward to meeting and inspiring the everyday heroes who make sport accessible for everyone.”

Stephen Brewster, chief executive officer of Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire, said: “We are honoured to announce Kate will be attending and speaking at the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards.

“This event is our chance to honour our local sportsmen and women, coaches, volunteers, clubs and officials. To be able to invite them to an evening with someone of Kate’s sporting calibre is a real privilege.”

Previous special guests of the evening include Sharron Davies MBE, the former swimming double Commonwealth gold and Olympic silver medallist, Gail Emms MBE, the former badminton world champion and Olympic silver medallist, and Sascha Kindred CBE, seven-time Paralympic swimmer and world record holder.

The Herefordshire & Worcestershire Sports Awards ceremony is a way of recognising and rewarding those people who participate, coach or volunteer in sport and physical activity. Sponsorship not only makes it possible for this prestigious event to take place, but gives the nominees and winners the recognition and thank you they deserve.

With many packages available, sponsoring the awards in any capacity is a fantastic opportunity to not only enhance your company’s reputation throughout the local community, but also to reach potential new customers, show your appreciation for local sporting heroes and have your brand associated with sport at a time when British sport is at an all-time high.

New for this year, organisers are offering a Speaker Sponsorship package, allocating your company ten of the top seats in the house alongside Richardson-Walsh. You will be able to discuss the successes, struggles and stories from her 13-year career and even come face to face with an Olympic gold medal.
