High fives for Bluck Cup winners Broadway United Reserves

Evesham Editorial 24th Apr, 2017   0

BROADWAY United Reserves lifted the Bluck Cup on Sunday evening after a thrilling 5-2 victory over Bretforton Old Boys Reserves in the final.

Bretforton took a first half lead through Booth and it looked likely to be the winner until injury time when Steele’s goal sent the game into extra time.

Broadway, despite having their keeper dismissed, grew stronger in extra time and goals from Steele, Cooper, Heritage and Harry Parker saw them home.

Griffiths grabbed a second goal for Old Boys but this could not prevent Broadway lifting the first of a possible three trophies this season.

There was penalty heartache for Evesham league clubs in county cup finals.

Sun Inn lost out 4-2 on spot kicks to Hucclecote in the GFA Sunday Intermediate Cup after a 2-2 draw, whilst Harvington played out an entertaining goalless encounter with Mostyn Rangers Reserves in the WFA Sunday Minor Cup before losing 5-4 on penalties.

Offenham Rovers reached the Express-Funding Mick Godwin Cup final by defeating Alderton 2-1 with goals from Brain and Smelc. Ryan scored for Alderton.

Champions Bretforton Old Boys completed their Division One campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Stour Excelsior thanks to goals from Clarke (2) and Gayton. Featherston scored for the visitors.

Evesham WMC secured runners-up spot with a 3-3 draw against visitors Inkberrow as Liam Scrivens netted a hat-trick for the Workies and Lewis Sheen did likewise for Inkberrow.

New Inn Pershore went top of Division Two with a comfortable 7-1 home win over Badsey Recreation in which Kyle Ballard (3), Joel Ballard, Rushton, Miller and Worrall scored for the victors and Attwood netted for the visitors.

Quinton played back-to-back matches against Cropthorne and secured victories in both as they prevailed 2-1 and 2-0.

Division Three outfit Fortis completed their best campaign to date – leaving an outside chance of promotion – with a 4-3 home victory over Bengeworth.

Hawkins, Napper, Saunders and Leyden scored for Fortis and Bengeworth struck through Burford, Lane and Giles.

TDMS recorded a narrow 3-2 home win over Pebworth with goals from McGarr, Upson and Rogers. Pebworth scored through Stayt and Mallory.

Stour Excelsior Reserves hit five without reply against visitors Ambi Allsports as Clarke bagged a treble and Shurmer and Ireland also netted.

This Sunday (5pm) brings the second internal cup final as Evesham WMC face New Inn Pershore in the Evesham Mechanical Services Knockout Cup final at Evesham United FC.
