BROADWAY Golf Club’s ladies’ section came out in force to support new lady skipper Irene Hawkes as she hosted her annual ‘Drive-in’.
Having previously successfully completed her first tee shot of 2019 with the other club captains, Hawkes was well practised and began the day with a splendid tee shot down the middle of the fairway.
Supporting ladies were given the opportunity to guess the distance and this was successfully calculated by Christine Saunders who had estimated the impressive 134 yards.
As soon as the superb drive was dispatched, 43 ladies then ventured out to compete in their first competition of the year – a nine-hole ‘Reverse’ Texas Scramble the chosen format with all team members driving off and then choosing the worst shot for the other players to take.
With this repeated to the green, the game provided a challenge but there was a lot of hilarity to be had!
Victorious four-ball Isobella Lates, Cheryl Senior, Henrietta Cooke and Lin Everitt clearly found the format to their liking as was evident by their excellent winning score of 50.1 nett.
Elaine Hickin, Diana Chambers and Bev Howard approved too as they brought in a nett 48 to achieve a commendable first placing in the three-ball contest.
Kind donations from all lady members are still coming in for the lady captain’s charity – Campden Home Nursing.
Hawkes, who is also chairwoman of Campden Home Nursing, has chosen to support this as her charity because of the wonderful nursing care it provides for the terminally ill who wish to be cared for at home in their last weeks of life.
