BARFORD ace Dave Harris won the Evesham Championship qualifier with a 10-10-0 net of chub from peg 35 on the River Avon’s confluence with the River Isbourne on Sunday.

After a slow start on his pole lines, Harris enlisted his favoured bomb and lobworm approach, cast across to the mouth of the river opposite.

Seven chub to 2lb was his reward and his 10-10-0 final tally was enough to win the match quite comfortably.

Cameron Hughes finished second from peg 74. He caught roach and small perch on bloodworm and joker tactics and boosted his weight with a couple of bonus skimmers that fell to the same tactic late in the day.

England international Steve Hemingray took third spot from peg 22. He caught dumpy roach early on bloodworm tactics, before topping up his weight with some chunky perch on bomb and maggot cast to the far bank later in the day.

Results: Evesham Championship qualifier (Evesham Town & Ferry Waters – 58 fished): 1 Dave Harris (Barford AA) 10-10-0 (peg 35); 2 Cameron Hughes (Rive) 9-13-0 (peg 74); 3 Steve Hemingray (Drennan) 9-1-0 (peg 22); 4 Michael Buchwalder 8-15-0 (peg 15); 4 Darren Bickerton 8-15-0 (peg 34).

Qualifiers: Tony Skinner, Paul Johnson, David Harris, Nick Young.

MATT Godfrey made it two victories in as many visits to Evesham this year after bagging 10-14-0 of roach from peg 34, above the River Avon’s confluence with the River Isbourne, to win Saturday’s Wychavon Championship qualifier.

The England ace caught over 200 small roach, dace and bleak on bloodworm and joker tactics, fished on the long pole at 14.5m.

In second place was Mark Newman who has now caught four barbel at Evesham this year, earning him the nickname ‘Whisker King’ among the other anglers!

He caught the 9lb beast on halibut pellet, cast two thirds of the way across the river.

Michael Buchwalder stole third spot from peg 22. He caught roach on bloodworm and also topped up his net nicely with some good perch and chublets on maggot feeder tactics.

Results: Wychavon Championship qualifier (Evesham Town & Ferry Waters – 64 fished): 1 Matt Godfrey (Pole Fishing Magazine) 10-14-0 (peg 34); 2 Mark Newman (Alan’s Tackle) 10-13-8 (peg 9); 3 Michael Buchwalder (Preston Innovations/ Sonubaits) 10-8-0 (peg 22); 4 Lee Kerry (Preston Innovations/Sonubaits) 9-0-0 (peg 70); 5 Dean Barlow (Drennan/ Bait-Tech) 8-12-0 (peg 71); 5 Darren Bickerton (Sensas) 8-12-0 (peg 36).

Qualifiers: Josh Trow-Smith, Darren Bickerton, Steve Townsend.
