GOLF - Vale Golf Club hold final event of year

THE Vale Golf Club seniors section hosted their final open of the season in the form of a four-player Texas Scramble format.

Some 120 players representing 27 different clubs took part in the competition, sponsored by P J Nicholls Ltd.

The Vale’s Gez Strangwood and Philip Lane, Thomas McClintock (Ullesthorpe Court Hotel) and Greg Young (Staverton Park) topped the standings with a net score of 58.

Just behind, Cotswold Hills Golf Club four Geoff Mace, Chris Kerridge, Mark Butler and Dave Griffiths finished second on 59.

Ludlow Golf Club players Miles Leach, Andrew McWhirter, Graham Spencer and Steve Wood placed third on 60.

And the Vale’s Peter Azizi, Will Reading, Nigel Smith and Alistair Rowley also finished on 60 in fourth.




Steve Hobbs, Philip Thomson, Tony Waldron (Mendip Springs GC) and Alan Taylor (Wells GC) finished fifth.

Ross-on-Wye Golf Club player Roger Bennett also achieved the closest shot to the pin on the fifth hole.


Event sponsors and club members donated prizes for the raffle which raised £685 for the Evesham and District Meeting Centre charity.

The club’s Autumn Trophy competition also took place as 60 members turned out to take part in the event.

And Dave Seager won the event with a score of 70 while Steve Hickmott won the Committee Cup with the lowest gross score of 83.
