BROADWAY Golf Club kicked off the new season with the club’s highly-anticipated captain versus president match.
Some 98 members took part in the pairs matchplay competition.
In the lead-up to the event, club president Warren McDivitt and captain Rob Jones carefully selected their respective teams.
Jones partnered club professional Josh Davies to secure a convincing 2 and 1 victory over the President’s pairing of McDivitt and Bobby Webb.
Overall, the captain’s team won 15-8 as Jones proudly lifted the trophy.
All losing pairs donated £10 to the captain’s chosen charity – Prostate Cancer UK – with a total of £285 raised at the event.
Following the competition, the club then presented prizes for last season’s men’s winter league.
The event took place over seven rounds with one round cancelled owing to challenging weather conditions.
Prizes went down to 12th place as Bobby Webb and Chris Minett took first place with 292 points.
And Mark Jones and Brian Radbourne finished second just seven points behind on 285 points.
Broadway’s women players then took part in the club’s Spring Texas scramble competition.
A total of 17 teams took to the course as Annabelle Carter, Julia Fortescue and Sandy Vale finished first with a 65 nett score.
And Karen Ashworth, Barb Buggin and Irene Hawkes finished in second place with a nett score of 66.
The ladies’ winter league awards presentation then took place as Jayne Telfer and Nadine Simpkin topped the leaderboard with 203 points.
