EVESHAM Girls were victorious when they hosted the latest of this season’s TAG rugby fixtures on Sunday, in which ten teams took part including sides from Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, Warwickshire and the City of Birmingham.
The Vale girls entered the tournament in second place overall in the league standings, knowing finishing above Shipston would guarantee they held this position.
The chance of the draw placed Evesham in the same qualifying group as Shipston and indeed this was their first game.
Knowing they needed a win, the girls started a little nervously but rallied to control the game and run out comfortable winners by seven tries to four.
Their second game gave the Evesham girls a comfortable win by ten tries to two, putting them through to the finals.
Bournville and Berkswell & Balsall Common also qualified from the group to complete the top three on the day.
Evesham, now in buoyant mood, proved too strong for both of these teams and won by eight tries to three and seven tries to four respectively to seal their third tournament win of the season, which is their best performance for four years.
They travel to Shipston for their final tournament on Sunday hoping to add to their tally.
Thanks to all the girls who took part and to their parents and families who helped out on the day and also for their continued support throughout the season.
The girls are involved in two cup competitions during the summer and will continue to train on Wednesday evenings between 6.30-7.30pm when any new players aged between ten and 17 are welcome to come along for a taster session.
