CAMERON Fraser secured a seventh-placed finish for Evesham’s Jones Dorling Racing in round seven of the 600 Superstock support series to the British Superbike Championship.

Worcester’s Ewan Potter was also representing JD Racing at the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire and finished 22nd following a determined effort across the weekend.

Friday’s free practice yielded some good progress with tweaks made to tyres and set-up and Fraser finished in an impressive P2 and Potter steadily improved his lap times to claim P12 in the 29-rider field.

Qualifying on Saturday was a challenging session for Potter who was looking to improve his lap time from Friday but he only managed to qualify in 26th, leaving him with a lot of work to do in Sunday’s race.

His warm-up session that evening had better pace as he knocked 0.5 seconds off in P17. Meanwhile, Fraser showed some front-running pace, knocking a second off his lap time and qualifying in seventh.

Race day brought some very hot conditions for the start of the 600 race. Both riders had good starts off the line with Fraser moving into sixth position but an incident on lap five meant the safety car was out for several laps, holding all riders in their positions.

By lap ten of the 14-lap race Potter had steadily moved up the field into 23rd. Fraser crossed the line in seventh, with Potter in 22nd and saying: “Whilst not the race result I was looking for as just outside the top 20, the race had positives.

“I was battling in a group, ended four places higher than I started the race and and came away with a new personal best of 1:20.1 by 0.7 seconds.”

Fraser said: “I really enjoyed battling with the group at the front again but couldn’t make my moves stick and got caught out when trying to make a push forward near the end of the race.”

Both riders felt there were lots of positives to take into the next round at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire this weekend.
