Forest of Dean trip brings worthy rewards

Evesham Editorial 9th Apr, 2018   0

EVESHAM Vale Running Club members were out in force at the Forest of Dean Trails Half Marathon on Saturday when 16 athletes from the club made the journey down to Coleford to compete in the 13.1-mile race alongside 831 other runners from all corners of the country.

Some were racing over this distance for the first time while others were chasing new personal bests and a few were vying for the prizes on a wet and undulating course through the forest.

In the team competition, the men put in a strong performance and took second place, while the ladies finished seventh.

The race was also classified as the UK Trail Running Association’s Short Course Championships, with medals up for grabs for the top three in each age group.

Marcus Mumford won gold in the men’s 35-40 age group in a time of 1:18:30, Tamsin Bowden took bronze in the ladies’ 40-44 age group in a time of 1:40:45 and Steve Batsford claimed bronze in the men’s 50-54 age group in a time of 1:32:02.

Evesham Vale Running Club continues to grow in numbers and is open to all abilities to enjoy sociable or competitive running several times a week. Visit www.eveshamvalerunningclub.org.uk for more details.
